Snowboarding and Other Activities
Snowboarding: It's the fastest growing winter
sport. That means there are a lot of novice snowboarders - and a lot
of injured snowboarders. Here's how to stay safe:
- Take a lesson. Qualified instructors can help you learn balancing
techniques - and they can even teach you the right way to fall!
- Dress warmly, and don't forget your helmet and wrist pads.
Always remember that you're sharing the hill with other snowboarders
and skiers of all levels. Watch where you're going and avoid collisions!
Other Activities:
There's a lot to do in the wintertime, but no matter what activity
you choose, be safe and sensible. Here are a few tips:
- No matter what you do outdoors in the wintertime, you should
take steps to avoid hypothermia and frostbite. Dressing in layers
is recommended. The outermost layer should be made of nylon so
that snow and moisture can't get through.
- If you participate in figure skating, ice hockey, or recreational
skating, dress warmly, make sure your skates are sharp, and do
plenty of stretching before you begin.
- If it's cold and wet, don't stay out too long. Set limits for
staying outdoors on cold, snowy days.
