Sledding
Probably the oldest and simplest winter activity, sledding results
in a surprising number of accidents. Here's how to sled safely:
- Pick the right sled. Sleds with steering mechanisms give you
control. Also, a sled with metal runners lifts you off the ground
and away from rocks and other objects that can cause accidents.
- If possible, sled on hills that are smooth (not bumpy), snowy
(not icy), and devoid of trees, fences and large rocks.
- Wear padded clothing, waterproof boots and insulated gloves.
Helmets are also a good idea - especially for small children.
